Comp Player Commitment and Discipline

The first step for becoming a competitive team is building discipline. Discipline is defined as “Training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character.” Each player’s talent is evaluated throughout the year based on the following four soccer player variables:

Technical – Passing, trapping, dribbling, ball control
Insight – vision, understanding, awareness
Personality – Will (to win), self-confidence, aggressiveness, attitude
Fitness – Endurance, speed, coordination

Impact United has established guidelines for determining playing time in the games and determines a level of play based on the player’s talent/discipline.

Level I: Full time starter (plays entire game)

Great talent, understands tactics of the team, will to win, highest fitness, demonstrates dedication in practices as well as games

Level II: Part time starter (starts game and plays a majority of the game)

Good talent, understands tactics of the team, not at the highest fitness level, lacks one of the soccer player variables

Level III: Substitute (plays in the game as the coach determines)

Talent not as developed as level I player, lacks one or more of the soccer player variables, (*fair playing time for level III is ten to fifteen minutes per half*)

Player Commitment

The ultimate success of the team depends on players that can commit to follow the rules of the team. Each player needs to:

  1. Attend all practices and games
  2. Drop one level if they miss a game or practice
  3. Arrive on time for games and practices (‘on time” for games means arriving 45 minutes prior to the start of the game as warm ups begin 30 minutes prior to the start)
  4. Bring full gear to all games (full gear includes: soccer ball, cleats, white and black uniforms, white and black socks, shin guards, warm-ups, beanie, under-armour, gloves, anything required to play considering weather and field conditions)
  5. Bring water and/or sports drink to all games and practices
  6. Tell the Coach, first and as soon as possible, of any game or practice conflicts
  7. Practice soccer skills (passing, kicking, juggling) at home
  8. Watch an international soccer match once a week (TV)
  9. Come to practice wearing team training attire
  10. Respect teammates
  11. Honor the rules of the game of soccer
